When traveling to Staten Island, you have a number of unique opportunities to observe the rich cultural heritage of this southern New York shore city. Located between Brooklyn and Manhattan, Staten Island is a popular tourist destination for both native New Yorkers and visitors from around the world. A visit to the Island provides a great deal of history and culture for locals and out of town visitors alike. As part of the State of New York, it is one of the cities that are served by the New York City Opera. Several of the musical selections are performed at the famed Central Park venue.
The most well-known Staten Island attraction, however, is without a doubt the security guard staten island statue. Tourists may also include the names of all fallen guards on the Statue of Liberty, as well as the US flag, when touring the Statue of Liberty.
To pay tribute to the hundreds of guards who made the Statue of Liberty famous, several events occur on Staten Island each year. In addition to the security guard statue, several parades are held, with a contingent of police officers in attendance. This is to ensure safety and order, as well as celebrate the contributions made by security guards to society.
Throughout the summer months, the Staten Island Summer Garden becomes a popular attraction. Crowds come to watch the flowers grow and the grass grow. Activities include ballooning, petting zoo, a swimming pool, a miniature golf course, and biking tours. The Garden is held every Friday, through the end of July.
For those interested in history, there is an interesting museum that features uniforms and memorabilia from security guards from various tours and eras. This historic museum is called the Security Guard Museum. It is located on Staten Island and is open to the public three times each month. Admission is free.
One last chance to see security guards in action is at the Staten Island Carnival which typically features a parade of local law enforcement units. Carnival goers get to watch a military unit perform stunts such as a security guard riding a jet ski. The festivities conclude with a concert by a popular Staten Island band.
While the security guard career can be stressful and physically demanding, many find it fulfilling and a great career choice. Many security guards get on their feet and enjoy the variety of events offered each week. With proper training and a positive outlook, a security guard could be the perfect fit for many different openings in the future.
